Protect the Environment and your Mental Health with your Connection with Nature (PEMEHECON)

About the project

Experience nature. Strengthen mindfulness. Rethinking youth work.

PEMEHECON is an Erasmus+ training for youth workers that focuses on the connection between nature, mental health and creative methods. From February 18 to March 1, 2026, participants from seven European countries will meet in Vienna to address the question: How can nature help us to live healthier, more consciously and more socially – and how can this be implemented in youth work?

With a varied program of forest theater, mindfulness, bodywork and creative methods, participants explore new ways of personal development and empowerment.

Why this project?

Increasing digitalization and alienation from nature are leaving their mark – especially on young people. Stress, isolation and emotional strain are on the rise. PEMEHECON aims to counter this with simple but effective means: Get out of your head and into your body. Get out of the daily grind and into nature.

The project takes up the findings of the biophilia hypothesis and current studies and combines them with practical methods for youth work. The focus is on:

  • Promotion of self-confidence & emotional intelligence

  • Development of mindful routines

  • Anchoring environmental and health education in everyday working life

  • Strengthening cohesion, creativity and resilience

A project that brings body, mind and nature back into harmony – and provides strong impetus for contemporary, holistic youth work.

Methods & activities

The training teaches methods of non-formal education and uses nature as a learning space:

  • Forest Theater & creative forms of expression

  • Yoga, meditation & dance as a physical experience

  • Workshops on the elements earth, water, air & fire

  • Developing methods for working with young people

  • Cooking together, rituals, storytelling in nature

  • Environmental and health education with digital tools

Participants develop their own formats and tools that they can use in their youth work – with a focus on resilience, inclusion and sustainability.
